ShotPitch is a one touch discovery and pitching mobile platform for entrepreneurs and investors around the world. Our client was the national lead for India’s largest startup network, Headstart, and had an idea that he hoped would revolutionize how entrepreneurs and investors communicate. I was responsible for the design of the iOS and Android apps. I lead the UX work, working closely with the client and the in-house development team, taking the project from ideation to release.

It is difficult for startups to discover and pitch to investors around the world.
It takes an average of 1.5 months to schedule a meeting with an investor.
- Investors want access to a global pool of startups to find the right fit.
- Investors are typically people with hectic schedules and little free time.
- A curated global platform for startups and investors to discover each other quickly and efficiently.
LEAN UX AND LEARNINGS
After I had my first set of sketches ready we had a meeting with the internal team. It included our project manager, CTO and the developers. Getting the broader team on board at this stage was crucial. The developers pointed out design features that could take time to load in less than optimum network conditions, compromising the experience. The CTO brought up back-end development constraints. My greatest learning here was that in getting this expertise in one room at this stage, I was able to make informed design decisions that would prevent future inefficiencies. This early meeting also helped manifest a sense of ownership with the iOS and Android developers, which enabled all of us to work together as a strong unit through product testing and launch.
VISUAL DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
We aimed to create an interface that felt simple yet powerful. To attain this I chose to display only essential details, focusing on the pitch video and keeping the style minimal. I worked alongside a visual designer who created the logo for ShotPitch. After several rounds of client and team feedback, we shared the Invision prototype, assets, and style sheet with our in-house development team. I worked closely with the developers ensuring the design was coming across as envisioned. At this stage I found it helpful to take the time to explain certain design choices to the developers. This helped them individually make decisions that fit into the design vision of the product.
ShotPitch entered the market with a bang, with startups and investors from over 90 countries signing up within the first weeks. It trended for a whole day on Product Hunt, resulting in a 1480% increase in Android app downloads. and 1185% increase in iOS downloads in two days.
